Black Sun

I've always taken care to not point video cameras or still cameras where the sun will get directly in the frame. But I managed to do just that this morning at Madison and Southbridge.

Apparently, if the sun gets directly into the frame on my cellphone camera, it comes out black.

Digital colors have red, green, and blue values that are stored as numbers. I've noticed that even man-made light sources tend to overwhelm the CCD, since these things are set up to handle reflected light, and with automatic level controls. Street lights, lamps, and any other source of direct light comes up as a the full value of all three colors, making white. But, apparently, when some of the pixels are hit with the ultimate source of light, all three color values get slammed down to zero.

It doesn't appear to have left a "burn" mark, either.
