It always begins in the early spring. All of sudden, the Bump Installation Crews will come swarming into the city and you won't be able to drive more than a couple of blocks without seeing one digging a hole somewhere. It goes right into the summer, like a blitzkrieg. Then, towards the end of August or the beginning of September, it starts to taper off. It just tapers off, and tapers off, and before you know it, it's October or November...
...and you can no longer tell the newly installed bumps from the old ones anymore.
I managed to squeeze off this picture as I drove by on Lincoln Street inbound this morning, just before Crescent. Not much point in adding it to the eighteen Crews I managed to catch and release during the season, though. Although it's technically a candidate as a Bump Installation Crew, I'd have to relegate this to the off-season "emergency repairs" or "uh-oh" category.
But even so, let's hope that they restore the road surface when they're done, instead of installing a new bump.
