S-Cam 12 & 13

I spent part of this weekend uploading about a dozen ten second video test clips, using different formats, just to see which ones came out better.

This clip was prepared and uploaded using the old format, which is the quickest way for me to run end to end, but has a lot of blocky pixellation (which drives me nuts).

This clip was done by capturing the S-Cam video from the analog output into the DV converter and onto the computer, rather than through the cam's on-board software via the USB port. Then I edited it, put in the titles, and compressed to QuickTime H.263 for the upload. It takes longer, but I think it's worth the extra rendering time.

I've used QuickTime, Nero Digital (MPEG-4), and Ulead MediaStudio Pro MPEG-2 formats for uploads over the past ten months, and although Nero and MSP render much quicker than QuickTime (how ironic), the YouTube and Google Video conversions to Flash have always seemed to be more QuickTime friendly.

Wow, if that was Tucker, he'd have MROWL-ed up a storm. He loves attention.

I've been thinking of getting an inexpensive digital video camera lately. Any suggestions?

It doesn't get any easier or cheaper than the flip video I used for these two clips. Kathy got this one for $80 on sale at Amazon, earlier this year.

But does it work with a Mac? That is the question...

Yes, it works well with the Mac.
