Today is Laura Nyro's birthday. She would have been 60 years old today.The first time I heard any music by Laura Nyro was one day when I was visiting at Charles River Square at the First Unitarian Church's parsonage, next door to Bobby Kennedy's townhouse in Boston. Debbie Mendelson, the minister's daughter, and her boyfriend Chris Rhodes, told me that this singer's voice was the most amazing thing they had ever heard, and we proceeded to listen to a record. From that day on, my opinion has been that Laura Nyro, in addition to having a fantastic set of pipes, was one of the 20th century's greatest songwriters.

I too discovered Laura Nyro decades ago. Great LP's. Yeah, I still got em.
Really good music - very soulful.
Ya know. "Good" dosen't suffice in describing her music.
It is superlative.
She was excellent! We lost her much too soon...
