Your employer requires you to work late one day, and stay until 7pm. Anybody ever have to do that? In the private sector, being required to work overtime isn't something that you can "just say no" to. It's paid time, it's needed by the business, and you're an "at-will" employee. If you refuse, they can fire you "at will".

But if you work at the new Taj Mahal of Justice down on the lower end of Main Street and they tell you to work overtime on one freakin' day, it makes
headlines in the paper.
Court workers are
upset?
Well, let me tell you... I'm not upset.
I'm
VERY unsympathetic.
