I still haven't been able to figure out why this is still closed. At first, they were parking the trailer trucks that carried the garage parts on this little section of Franklin Street. But that hasn't been the case for weeks, now.
Now the trucks are all lined up on the other side of Grafton Street on Franklin, just past the Kenmore Diner, where there's plenty of space for these guys to not only park, but even leave the trailers for days on end until the garage assemblers can catch up to them.
This is the last of at least a half dozen trailers that have spent the past week parked here. The line of trailers with various shapes and sizes of garage parts went all the way down to Barbara Lane.
If it piled up even more, I'm sure the owners of the empty Shaw's would be more than happy to accomodate them in that vacant parking lot.
Meanwhile, nobody can enter Franklin Street from the boulevard, or take the temporary two way part of Harding to that section of Franklin and come out on the boulevard.
Why?
Is it part of the ongoing plan to prolong this agony for as long as possible?
This trailer truck was idling when I took the picture, so he'll probably be moving this part for the big, multi-million dollar Lego-Garage over to the crane this morning.Since all the parts access is now coming from that side, there really doesn't appear to be much point in keeping that other short piece of Franklin Street closed on the other side. Since the assembly project started on that end, but now all the work is progressing towards the Grafton Street side, it can be more easily accessed from where the trucks are parking now.
Of course, easy access to Union Station was never at the top of anyone's agenda in all of this, was it? After all, the finished plan calls for making it impossible to go directly into the train station from the new Washington Square. That effectively piles half the traffic coming to and from the train each day all the way around the building... kinda like creating another whole rotary, eh?
Meanwhile, this morning, the access to the front of the train station via the boulevard got cut off. Now the only way into the front of the station is from Harding Street.
