EL Predictamundo

That's what I'm going to be calling Sam Rosario from now on, El Predictamundo. Last night on WCCA-TV 13, Sam Rosario brought up the possibility of Konnie Lukes winning the mayoral race, but Gary Rosen winning the largest number of at-large votes for City Council. This morning, the T&G is saying that's exactly what happened, based on the order they've posted the winners in the at-large council election.

Judging by the numbers being reported, however, my only thought this morning is that our town is, just like every other town in this country, pretty sharply divided. No great unifier has yet emerged to put an end to this. Tiny margins of victory means no voter mandate, and a truly lousy excuse for those elected to remain sharply divided.

But a house divided cannot stand. I hope that the post-election political rhetoric quickly moves to a "work together" tone, and an acceptance of what appears to be an odd Plan E result. The last thing anybody needs to hear at this point is any political noise about changing the charter, or any continuance of campaign strategy.

Winning or losing by a hundred votes in a potential field of nearly 100,000 voters only means that nobody said anything all campaign season long that meant a goddam thing to three quarters of them.
