I-290 Accident

Some time before 3 pm today, there was an accident on I-290 westbound, on the elevated section that goes over Washington Square.

There were several police cars on the scene (red arrow) when I took the picture, and an ambulance was just arriving. Most of the westbound lanes were blocked, so westbound traffic after the accident scene was practically nonexistant.

I'd like to say, "I hope nobody got hurt," but it did look pretty serious.

I never would've noticed, since I wasn't on the expressway, but just going over the Harrison Street bridge.

I suspect the eastbound backup may have been a gawk block, but since I wasn't close enough to see what was going on over there, the accident may also have involved part of the eastbound side, too.

This is looking in the other direction, where the eastbound traffic was backed up through the S-curve.

Since it's afternoon, and westbound traffic is usually backed up because of the construction, seeing an empty westbound side when I first started going over the bridge made me slow down right away.

I wonder if there will be any report of this accident in tomorrow's T&G?
