Whump!

Just before noon today, I came upon this accident scene on Plantation Street, outbound right after the UMass entrance.

The van tried to park inside the white car, but it didn't work.

It's all about that "following too close" thing... it may seem like a judgement call.

If the guy in front of you hits a truck head-on, and you don't rear-end him, then you weren't following too close.

After you've rear-ended somebody, though, there's no slightest doubt that you were following too close.

Apparently, though, there's really no sure-fire way for most people to figure out if they're following too close unless they actually rear-end somebody... which probably accounts for the prolific incidence of rear-end collisions.

And that reminds me... Why do they still call them bumpers?

At least this tailgater just got a smooshed nose. I don't understand people who follow too close at all. It's so dangerous. Basically, if you cannot see ALL of the car in front of you (tires too) - you are probably too close!

Maybe we should make one of those "you may be tailgating if..." lists for people. haha!

Imagine what it would be like on the roads if everybody drove as if they were being followed by a police cruiser...
