Editorial Cartoonists

Yesterday, I had to look all the way over on the other side of the country to find a political cartoon that actually made me laugh, ...after listening to the 508 #17 podcast. During the podcast, Mike made the comment, “David Hitch is the worst editorial cartoonist in the country.”

When he said that, I felt an undercurrent of objection, as if to say, "Whaddya mean???" But after spending some time looking at political cartoons by Hitch and others, I realized that I haven't actually laughed at a David Hitch cartoon in so long that maybe I had become inured to the lowered bar... Now I wonder, have I ever actually laughed at a David Hitch cartoon?

To be fair, though, I could only find that one (linked above) cartoon that actually made me laugh after looking at political cartoons for nearly an hour. So, I think that maybe it's time to apply some up to date lexi-logic to the genre and start calling these things graphic commentary instead of editorial cartoons.

Maybe they're not supposed to be funny...

That would, at the very least, make Hitch the worst graphic commentary author in the city...
