At 6:30, the sidewalks were beginning to accumulate when I took this shot at Park and Parker. The first forecast I heard a couple days ago, had it come true, would have given me a whole day on the road before the snow started falling in the mid to late afternoon.
Last night's forecast, had it come true, would have left me with a mid-shift bailout once the roads started gettting slippery. When I got up this morning, I figured I'd be able to work straight through to nearly noon. That is, until I took a look at the radar. Then I figured I'd just drive until I saw people sliding around.
I took this at 7:30 on Southbridge Street inbound, just before Cambridge Street. They're going to re-design this intersection, by the way, and it looks like the work may be starting as soon as the warm weather shows some sign of arriving. It'll probably be an intersection to avoid, once that work starts.
At 7:30 I still hadn't encountered any significant road surface slipperness. Right after I took the picture, though, I got a call for someone off of Chapel Street in Leicester. It was slippery up there.
In fact, it was slippery enough on the hill I had to climb to pick that person up that I decided it would be my last pickup.
Here's Florence Street at 8:00, as I made my way across the city with my fare from Leicester. This was a long ride, all the way over to Grafton Hill. The main roads were fine at this point, but the side streets were getting pretty slippery. When I turned off Park Ave and went up Beaver Street, I missed getting smashed by an SUV sliding out of Clement Street in front of me. If I had gotten there a split second sooner, it would have been all over.
Once I dropped my fare off on Grafton Hill, I logged out, gassed up the cab, and went home.
