I spotted this story just now that puts the final nail in the coffin of Super 88's plans for a downtown market on Portland Street. If you didn't know this was coming, then you haven't been near that area to see that nothing whatsoever has happened in the past year except for the razing of the former Bancroft Motors' showroom on Salem Street.

As a resident of the Bancroft I wouldn't say "nothing" has happened in the past year. The Super 88 is a serious dissapointment though.
I still say Mayo has the right idea about what to do with that city block, I just hope something happens with it sooner than later.
Gabe, I was referring to any visible activity or changes that indicated the supermarket was imminent... Every time I went up Portland or Salem, I'd look with high expectations, but the dealer showroom razing seemed to be the only evidence that turned up in this past year.
When big announcements are made, then things lag and lag, it usually portends that something may have fallen through, and as much as I hate to see it happen over and over again in Worcester, it just does.
