I tried to grab a shot of the hole they're digging here, but that dark sedan swooped into the frame at just the right moment. This was a Bump Installation Crew on Southbridge Street, opposite Crompton, this morning just before 8 o'clock. It was quite a backup on the inbound side, since they had the inbound lane diverted into one of the outbound lanes. It was slow going on the outbound lane, too, because of all the traffic that wanted to come out of Crompton Street and go left.
The police officer wouldn't let them, though.
I could see that it was pissing off just about everyone who got to that point, and then discovered they'd have to take a right and go all the way around the loop-de-loop... and end up in that huge pileup, only much further back.
It also made things tough for a trailer truck who didn't have enough room to swing out and take the right turn until the backed up traffic gave him a break.I tried taking at least three more shots of the hole they had dug, off to my left, while I was waiting for all this drama to play out in front of me. But it just wasn't to be...
For what it's worth, that particular section of Southbridge Street on the inbound side where they've dug the hole... any patching they do when they're done has to be an improvement, no matter how much of a bump they end up installing. That section's probably the worst section for bumps on the whole street, from the Auburn line to the Hanover Theater.
