Charter's New "Service"

From CNN Money on Friday:
Reps. Edward Markey, D-Mass., who chairs the Telecommunications Subcommittee and Joe Barton, R-Texas, the full committee's senior Republican, sent a letter Friday to Charter President Neil Smit asking that the company hold off on its venture until the members can learn more about it.

Worcester Indymedia posted about Charter's new "service" on Wednesday, as did WCCA ...although WCCA's site isn't responding this morning as I write this. I expect it'll be back up soon, though. [update: it's up as of 9:10 am]

Personally, I wasn't too bothered about Charter's "new service", myself, since I've been pretty much convinced for several years that my personal online surfing history is archived hourly at the NSA, Google, Microsoft, and the servers for every company I've bought software from and installed on this machine. Frankly, I thought it somewhat quaint that Charter was only just now getting hip to this whole idea...

Are there really people still out there who believe that when they connect a computer to the internet that everything on it is NOT at risk?

Well, apparently Rep. Markey does, godbless 'im!

I opted out, but beware of that as well. The page is not secure and not everyone may be comfortable with the information you have to submit that way. I also have not received any sort of notification that they received and accepted my opt out, and I'm not exactly ready to trust Charter when it comes to doing the right thing...

I scratched my head a bit when I got the letter in the mail.

I was going to opt out and then saw how cumbersome the instructions were I said the heck with it... At least for now.
