Papamoka PriceRite

Matt has discovered the Spags of Grocery Stores here in Worcester, and I'll add my kudos for their budget saving presence on the local scene.

After reading Matt's posting about PriceRite, I got curious and looked up some info about the other grocery chains here in Worcester, just to glean some perspective on how or why they can offer the best price breaks in town on groceries. I hadn't done this a few months ago when I last posted about this place.

Inividual PriceRite stores are owner operated and part of a co-op named ShopRite.

All of the PriceRite/ShopRite member stores are, in turn, doing business with Wakefern, which is in Elizabeth, NJ. If you look at how this is all structured, then you'll understand how this is actually a bright idea for offering the best prices to customers.

The other chain supermarkets in Worcester, on the other hand, are just typical charge what the market will bear types of large, corporate culture, let's amass a fortune style businesses.

Stop & Shop is a subsidiary of Ahold USA, a division of Royal Ahold in the Netherlands. Shaw's is a subsidiary of SuperValu in Minnesota. Big Y is owned by the D'Amour family in Springfield. MA.

PriceRite is most definitely in a completely different category, and it's great that we have one in Worcester.
