T&G Ripoff

I've been meaning to comment on this for a while...

The T&G invites bloggers to participate in their website by offering an aggregate exposure online, where duped bloggers are all displayed in one section of the T&G website. I'm sure all the participating bloggers think they're getting a great deal.

Unfortunately, the T&G does not back-link to any of the bloggers' blogs, it just copies the content without any reference to the fact that some (or maybe all) of these blogs exist online as independent websites. It gives the appearance that the T&G is the sole host, when, in fact they're merely copying the content from somewhere else.

Brent Abrahamson's Southbridge and Beyond is an example. Nowhere on the T&G website will you find a link back to that blog. Yet, every post that Brent makes to his actual blog is copied to the T&G website without any back-link to indicate the source of the content.

I'm sure Brent will say that this is perfectly okay with him, and I can hardly expect to dissuade such a position. But I consider the T&G's practice in this to be contemptible.

Without back-links to their sources, the T&G's aggregation of content is nothing more than a blatant ripoff.

A quick glance at the blog you mention leaves me thinking he's getting more comments on the blog than on the T&G site! I wonder how many views he gets on the T&G. (I wonder if they even let him know the #s.)

Clearly, Jeff, you should setup a dummy blog and write about the T&G experience from the inside.

The absence of links to the source blogs is simply dishonest. Without links, it's a complete misrepresentation of the material, the site section, and the role of the aggregated bloggers as "volunteers".

Of course, since they've gone non-profit, I suppose they need all the "volunteers" they can get...

I have to agree with you Jeff, they are stealing these folks blind. As a blogger what good does it do you if they throw your picture up along with your thoughts and not link back to the original location? I can't believe so many people are allowing them to do what they are?

Hi Jeff, I came across your observations about the blogs. While the T&G does not link back, they do not prevent it. As a result of reading your blog, I have begun adding the link. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for reading.

Obtaining regular content for their business for free is nothing but a swindle on their part. Not providing a clear and prominent link back to your (or anyone else's) blog speaks very loudly to their confusion about what business they're actually in.
