The first self powered transport with two inline wheels to be called a "bicycle", according to the Pedaling History website, was the high wheel bicycle which originally showed up in 1870. Seeing not just one, but two of these things being ridden in Worcester yesterday was quite a sight...
And in case you don't notice it the first time, the kid's version is actually a "chopper" that uses the little wheel to steer instead of the big one.
