It was just a coincidence that I started this blog on Bob Dylan's 66th birthday. That particular day was also Tommy Chong's 69th birthday.
I didn't plan it that way, it was just time for me to start something new.
Dylan's 67 today, and Tommy Chong turns 70... sheesh! It's very difficult to find myself moving into this golden years age group and not wonder why it seems like just yesterday that I first heard of people like Dylan. It's probably because it's difficult to keep from looking back instead of looking forward... when the future begins to look like it will be shorter than the past.
So this is it: welcome to the future! The blog's first birthday has arrived, and I can now begin my second year of wearing down my computer keyboard some more, churning out all this effluvium, and cleverly making something out of absolutely nothing...
I once wrote in my endless personal journal that I didn't think I'd be able to write anything for outside consumption until I had more experience in life. Well, the fact is that things like that set your course, whether you think they will or not. Donald Shimoda, the enigmatic character in Richard Bach's 1977 book, "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah," said, "Argue for your limitations, and they're yours."
When you say, "I can't do that"... you've basically nailed yourself down.
Unfortunately, this sort of thing also works the other way, too. When I started this blog last year, I said to myself, "Yeah... I could blog every day for the rest of my life without any effort at all."
I only have myself to blame.
