WoMag Sale, cont'd

This morning's T&G has more on the sale of WoMag.

Hopefully, the new owner will see enough of an immediate revenue stream from his new acquisition that it won't necessitate letting any of the full-time journalists go. The following two sentences from the T&G article certainly applies the pressure in a slightly different direction, though:

Meanwhile, Mr. Charter, the Landmark publisher, said plans are not set yet for staffing the magazine, though he emphasized that veteran Advertising Director Kathy Real will be staying on.

Mr. Charter, who began meeting with employees yesterday, made no such assurances about Editor Noah Bombard, who was on vacation yesterday and who Mr. Charter said may not have been aware of the sale, or the five other full-time journalists on the staff.

The heart and soul of the publication and its appeal, of course, is created by those journalists every week. They are the ones who create the demand, and the actual value of the publication. Those guys are the ones who bust their asses every week to chase down the stories and write the content that makes people actually pick the magazine up off the rack.

Nobody's picking up WoMag to see what new and exciting ads there are each week!

Heh...

Well, maybe I will have to grudgingly admit that we'd have to make a single exception in the case of the Salty Dog centerfold...

I wonder if the new Womag will still cover the local music scene ie; Ukestock .
Sorry for the shameless plug but it's true . Womag has always covered and helped out some local acts and that should be a part of it's community profile.
Recently WCUW and Womag forged an alliance to underwrite some ads and raise some awareness and I hope the "new" publisher's will honor that.
