Two "articles" and one anonymous "opinion" in four days! I gotta hand it to the T&G, they sure do know how to sit on the so called "news" until two weeks before the election, so that they can send somebody down the toilet without enough time for anyone to sort out the actual facts until it's too late.
Frankly, I couldn't care less if Spellane wins or loses his seat in the state legislature. It's the alternative eleventh hour candidates that should concern voters of the 13th district, though... and their connections to the people waging this smear campaign at the T&G.

Well Jeff, I am very happy you can tell a "Smear Campain", as you have done it against McCain and Palin for the last 6 months!!!I see you didn't mention OBamas "Vice President Elect's" comments the other day. He said if they were electid, that the WORLD would test him within 6 months(could he mean attacks, bombing, etc???)And he is his running mate!!! Call me in Canada if he wins!!!Good Luck to you all !!!!

Now who's "smearing," Jeff?
What about this is made up? The mortgage stuff is real; the part from last year about the car coming out of campaign funds is real; the divorce stuff is real...I don't know where you're getting that this is a smear.
You can say that it's legit or not legit to judge him based on these things. I'd say, though, that having ongoing issues with the Ethics Subcommittee is certainly newsworthy.
Tracy: I'm still trying to figure out what "just happened" in the past week that triggers this series of articles. I believe that it's the T&G's prerogative, as the main element of the fourth estate in this city, to inform the public about what's going on. In this particular case, I believe that they are severely misinforming the public with this kind of timing. It appears to me that nothing, whatsoever, has been reported by the T&G over the past year about Spellane's misadventures, yet they are uncannily well informed about two eleventh hour candidates within hours of their initial reportage about Spellane. That stinks to high heaven.
It isn't that I don't take the info being reported about Spellane at face value. I do. They reported it, so I believe it's a collection of credible data. What I seriously question is the timing. I also find it difficult to arrange the facts reported into any timeline or chronology because the time of each incident is missing from these articles. If you read all three pieces, you can find Who, and you can find What, but WHEN is almost entirely missing, or so adeptly de-stressed that the average reader would miss it entirely. This is a common gimmick for reporting very old information as "news" that isn't really new at all: just don't bother mentioning WHEN anything actually happened, but instead, write it so it seems to all be breaking news, brand new information, a sudden revelation. By de-stressing the WHEN element of a story, you can make just about anything sound like it all just happened in the last five minutes.
Had each element of Spellane's misadventures been reported by the T&G in a timely manner over the past year, then Spellane would have been given a fair chance to defend himself. Given that opportunity, it may well be found that there is much more information the T&G has failed to report. This, however, cannot be done in two weeks.
Consequently, and because of the timing and clever compression of time by adding up all this stuff to make it look like it's all "just happening right now", it's my belief that there is an as yet undisclosed connection between Sutner, et al, and these new eleventh hour candidates.
The T&G, by NOT reporting anything at all about Spellane's misadventures over the past year, and springing it all on the public two weeks before the election is VASTLY irresponsible, suspicious, and presents two new candidates that can never be adequately vetted in the time remaining before election day. Moreover, it will be impossible for Spellane to defend himself, whether he has a defensible position on any one of the hits against him or not.
Add all that up, and it looks to me like a "smear campaign" of the first water.
Dean: As soon as this began looking the way it does now, I posted about how much I admire Shaun Sutner's abilities as a writer of propaganda. I went on to say, "I try, but I'm just an amateur." And I will continue to post my opinions about that lying sack of shit named Sarah Palin, every chance I get.
