One of our largest downtown employers, Unum, wants to move out of its current digs and into new space. This article in today's T&G doesn't really shed much light on where they will eventually move to, but even Sr VP Christopher Collins can't predict how this will turn out.
“Our preference is to stay in the city of Worcester,” Mr. Collins said. “That’s our preference. I can’t say what will end up happening.”
The prospect of Unum moving to CitySquare is certainly the most ideal thing that could happen for the city. A lease commitment of that size would trigger the release of funds for the long anticipated demolition of the old mall, and finally get this project rolling.
I'm sure that city officials are doing everything they can to make this prospect a reality.
