If you've never seen Zonkaraz play live, then you have no idea what I might be talking about, or what anybody might have been talking about with this band. No words can describe that experience, no recording can reproduce it, and no video clip can give but a hint at the level of talent that came together in that band... but now you've got a chance to find out.
This coming Saturday, November 8th, Zonkaraz will be playing at the Hanover Theater.
Today's article in the T&G talks about the band's original music, but like most of the articles that touch on that aspect of the band's unique blend of genres, it doesn't mention that most of those original songs were hatched by Ric Porter.
I ran into Ric a little over a week ago at the 75th Anniversary party for the Blue Plate in Holden. He never stopped writing songs. We sat in his car in the parking lot for a listen to one of the cuts on a new CD he's been working on.
As I listened to it, I got goose bumps...

Ric has an amazing talent for finding a catchy hook - and still sounding sincere!
