Worcester Center for Crafts

The aftershocks of a failing economy now include another victim. Daily Worcesteria broke the story yesterday, the T&G has an article about it today, and the Craft Center website has an announcement on its front page, along with a link to a pdf of the announcement.

Not being a crafty fellow, myself, I've only been inside the Craft Center once, and that was many years ago when a girlfriend was involved with the place. I have to say that I was very surprised then to see the depth and breadth of the activities there, however.

Reading about it today in the paper, I was surprised anew to discover that the Worcester Center for Crafts is over 150 years old, and was originally started to assist immigrants by teaching various crafts so that they could make and sell things to support their families.

The shutting of the Craft Center is, indeed, a very sad and troubling development.
