T&G Anti-Cop Crusade

The anti-cop bias at the T&G is something that I've taken continuing exception to over the past couple of years because there doesn't seem to be anyone else making note of it.

I found an example of it yesterday. In the "From the region" section, they have a little blurb about Worcester Police Officer David N. Luong being acquitted of a charge of assault and battery. It isn't that they don't report stuff like this, it's how they report it.

The acquittal story got that little blurb, buried in amongst seven other little blurbs.

But when Officer Luong was charged with assault and battery back in November, the story got it's own headline, it's own byline, and it was a lot more than just a blurb. In fact, it wasn't enough for the T&G to make a full story out of the charge back on November 17th, they felt they had to really twist the knife by publishing it again the following day with a slightly different headline.

Obvious anti-cop bias at the T&G is easily measured in column-inches.

Anti cop bias at the T&G? You’re kidding right?
Jeff you may have noticed, ahem… they are the only newspaper in the city.
So who and how should something like that be reported? Ignore it? Public trust be damned eh? Bury it among want ads?

When a cop goes bonkers on a civilian – and Wusta has its share of rogue cops eh? Or when daddy cop uses his connections to help junior avoid a criminal charge, or if a cop peddles a little bit of pot. I guess those items aren’t newsworthy? Bury it in the back. The T&G shouldn’t touch it because they’re utterly biased you’re saying? What is this world coming to when a rogue cop can’t get a fair shot? Geez…

Or when Gemme play a game with the system and a councilor or two helps him… it affecting public trust and costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, I suppose you think that’s OK too huh? Are cops untouchable? Or is the T&G just a troublemaker? Selective in what they print, even spinning the facts?

You spend a lot of time parsing the T&G. Why is that? You’re beginning to read between the lines – looking for a conspiracy? Why don’t you parse WOMAG? Hey try that mirror behind the back thing.

Twist the knife? How utterly ridiculous Jeff. The cop assaulted someone. First it’s a headline, then a back page item. If you haven’t noticed, newspapers have been doing that since paper was invented.

Thank God Wusta has Jeff to keep an eye on things.

Jeff for mayor!

Flame away, Will. That's what you're good at.

And your point is?... What? That the T&G is "fair and balanced"?

And what's this "The cop assaulted someone" statement? You didn't notice that a jury acquitted the guy? ...quod erat demonstrandum.

And where am I asserting that "cops are untouchable"? When you make up shit like that, I can only assume that you're delusional. Especially when you assume that I think the bad cop stories aren't newsworthy... Where did I say that?

Heh... and this "Why don't you parse WoMag?" thing... What the fuck does the weekly J. Peterman Catalog have to do with any of this?

Maybe if you could be a bit more coherent in your flaming, I could respond without thinking you're just a complete fucking idiot.
