Worcester Bus Fuss

I had to read and re-read this T&G article a couple of times...

All I can really figure is that there might be an old maxim at work here, one that would probably speak to the effect of money getting tight, budgets getting squeezed... and the more that happens, then the shorter people's tempers will get.

"Why can't we all just get along?"

Well, that just doesn't apply here.

The second paragraph in the story... this is the one that tells the larger story:

With the union’s contract set to expire June 30, Local 22 Business Agent Christopher W. Bruce said, “There is an animus. It seems like the contract is not going to be an easy one.

Of course there's animus... They all know what's coming... June 30th is the date for the inevitable meeting between a rock and hard place.

Any public union contract negotiation occurring in this climate is going to be rough. How do you get people to contractually agree to a zero percent raise? No one wants a zero percent raise.

How can anyone working for a completely unviable business expect a raise?
