Scott Brown - All Hat and Borrowed Cattle

I got an e-mail from a friend of mine who went to the Scott Brown rally at Mechanics Hall yesterday, saying that he couldn't get inside.

He was pissed...

When he decided to start walking back to where he parked his car, he noticed many out of state license plates. Then he walked over to the nearest parking garage and started taking note of the license plates, most of which were from out of state.

His conclusion? If they had only let Massachusetts registered voters into the rally, he and every other Massachusetts registered voter that showed up would've easily gotten in.

My conclusion?... out of state supporters can't vote for him tomorrow.

Update(5:30am): Even the T&G article on yesterday's rally makes mention of the Brown campaign bringing in "busloads" of out of state people to bulk up the crowd (last paragraph).

Update(6am): Sheesh! Bill and Paulie couldn't even get in! And they live here!

you usually have a healthy skepticism of what is in the telegram. Do the remarks of one democratic activist ring true to you because of other things that you have observed in the campaign?

I think there is alot of support for Brown here. I don't think the license plates of a bus or uhaul truck tell the whole story here. What are you seeing Jeff that convice you there is astroturf?

Also can you define astroturf for your loyal readers? Happy Snow storM!

T-Traveler: Heh.

I'm using the term "Astroturf" here to call attention to bucketloads of out-of-state money spent to make in-state support look vastly larger than it really is. In this case, the local electorate in support of Brown is, in my opinion, being made to appear vastly larger than it really is.

As far as the veracity of the T&G's last paragraph in that article, it's their choice (as a Republican paper) to even mention it. That they put it in there at all is worthy of note.

The truly sad part of this whole thing is that these eleventh hour tactics can't be viewed in depth until all this noise dies down, and the election is over.

Consequently, I'm just posting about how it looks to me right now... which is what I always do.

When/if other facts come to light that would change my mind, then I'll change my mind. But right now I believe that Scott Brown is selling moderates down the river by pandering to big money interests. Right now he looks like just another sock puppet to me.

thats a different arguement of course. Cant speak for the electorate--they will speak for themselves very soon, but I think the enthusiasm of everyday people is real, on the internets and in teh shopping malls.

Maybe its more of a suburban thing than what you are witnessing in the city from the taxi

Mostly, I hope to see an unusually high voter turnout, no matter who wins. An unusually high voter turnout would make me happier than anything else.

No the won't. The electorate will watch on TV- and then complain about the result.

Thus, the real "electorate" will default to the banks, oil companies, pharmaceutical corporations, and industrial heathcare giants who buy the election.

I find it odd that I linked to this from a blog all about the Worcester punk scene in the late70s-early 80s. We don't need no stinkin' NeoCons!
