This morning on WTAG, I heard Jim Polito ranting about Allen Fletcher.
It isn't the first time.
He had awarded Allen Fletcher the "big, fat phony" award last week.
I had a passenger in the cab as Polito went on and on about Fletcher never having had to work for a living, inheriting his money, and never having lifted a finger to help the city out, etc, etc...
My passenger said, "Is this guy on drugs, or what?"
It was really bizarre, too, because this went on for over an hour this morning.
It was so bad that he was lumping in anything and everything that's ever gone wrong in Worcester over the past three or four decades to "people like Fletcher"... the old guard, the WASPS who are always trying to run things as the real power "behind the throne"...
But, according to Polito, Allen Fletcher is the poster child for "this bunch" in town... He called Fletcher "evil"...
He called Allen Fletcher "the Anti-Christ".
Heh.
He really did! He said it several times over the course of his on again, off again rant today.
The Anti-Christ!..
When someone spews venom and ad hominem endlessly online, it's called "flaming".
But when it's done on a federally licensed broadcast radio station, it's called "talk radio".

It's "Allen."
And -- I've been dying to use this as a blog post -- Fletch lives!
Thanks, Nicole. I went through and changed the spelling on each instance... hope I got 'em all!
Save yourself, according to some, and I tend to believe it, listen to that pompous maniac can cause you cancer or worse.

I wouldn't be surprised if Allen sues the daylights out of both TAG and Charter for airing that airhead.
Phonies! Polito is the bigest one on WTAG. He is a Rush Limbaugh wanna-be, and couldn't carry Jordan Levy's comb hair. What has he done for this community? The best thing that he ever did was leave and live elswhere for twenty years. Phonies! I guess the pot still knows how to call the kettle black.
Allen has done a lot for the Canal District and the Green Island neighborhood. He is a nice guy that cares about the community - and the world. He is a former Peace Corps member. Why does everyone else in the city have a grudge against him?
Hannah: I've only met Allen once, but he seems like a decent guy.
This morning (3/9), Polito claims that WTAG management got a lot of complaints about his bashing Allen Fletcher, and that they called him up this morning and told him, "Keep up the good work!" So, obviously, his show is just a daily flame, hathos-driven, and not at all unlike all the other right-wing radio talk shows. How anyone can take his ranting seriously is beyond me.
Polito is such a pompous a$$ we need a grass roots movement to take back WTAG, it's been hijacked by right wing nut cases starting with him in the morning, and sorry but all Jordan does is read the "Drudge Report" on air every day. I can do that myself. Polito belongs in the canal district, in the canal.
think its the beret that gets under peoples skin
I'm not sure that type of idiotic "Flame" format, on a local level, really brings in listeners. Maybe a few lawyers will listen in as they determine the legal arugment for Allen's litigious purposes. If it does attract listeners, I wonder what type of people are they? Are they buying whatever that station is advertising? What products actually target a few cranky half brain dead farts that may be listening to that BS ?
I'm sure Polito is just trying to impress that vixen, Rosie Tirella!
Fletcher must be doing something right if two of the biggest morons in the city hate him.
I'm pretty sure it's 80% an act.
Dear Jeff and the gang who post here. This is Jim Polito. Just some quick clarifications. Allen has not been awarded a coveted "Big Fat Phony." That would be akin to calling the Grand Canyon a ditch. We did not receive any complaints regarding my rant on Allen, except for a couple of calls to Jordan’s show; I was taking poetic license to present a little satire. A lawsuit? Some of you should bone up on libel and slander law. While you're in the library, or on line, do a little research into the Stoddard family and the John Birch Society. Ask yourselves why there are no network television stations in the city and why the Mass Pike did not have a Worcester exit. Allen can't be held responsible for the sins of the grandfather but he often perpetuates the old Yankee/WASP aristocracy’s attitude that kept Worcester in the dark ages and its people under control. On top of that, please, tell me exactly what he has done to help the city? He's not responsible for his own wealth, not that there's anything wrong with that, it was bequeathed to him. I believe he distributes funds to worthy causes from a trust that was funded by his family. What has he done with his own money to better the city? Has he invested, taken any real risks? Spare me the Worcester Publishing success story and his Herculean efforts to revitalize the Anal District.
If I'm a rude lunatic, what's going on here...moron? right wing nut cases? Polito belongs in the canal? Looks like a bunch of hypocrites and that's just a hop and a skip from a "Big Fat Phony." And while I'm on the subject of phonies, Jeff, I heard through the grapevine that you appreciated my defense of cab drivers against the livery scam. Where's the love? Don't worry, my skin is very thick and I didn't do it to gain favor. Frankly, my philosophy is always to follow the stink, no matter where it leads. I've also learned that people fear/hate the pit bull until he bites one of their enemies. Finally, thanks for listening, tune in tomorrow starting at five.
Your comment, Jim, for some reason didn't show up in my e-mail until this morning (quarter of eleven), so I didn't see it until after I posted about the WoMag cover story this morning (This Google blogging platform is sometimes sluggish).
You got your "Atta-boy", and I did have a chance to listen to most of yesterdays's show devoted to the Taxi vs Livery issue.
But I still maintain that I don't know why anyone would take any of your on the air antics seriously, since it's meant to generate interest and listeners.
But sometimes people will take things from various media much more seriously than they should... Ah well... That's the price of sticking your head above the crowd. It just makes you a better target.
I listen for the traffic reports between 7 and 9, and only catch your show in bits and pieces, since I have to turn it down to hear my passengers in the cab. If they say something I can't hear (like, "Turn left here") they get pissed...
