Smudge Doth Protest

After the chair lift got installed on Thursday, it slowly became apparent that the presence of the new monster on the stairs presented a moderate trauma for the cat.

It turned out that the house was now divided into three separate zones for Mr. Smudge, none of which were accessible from any of the others.  He had the living room and blogging room for one section, the kitchen and downstairs half-bath (where his food and litter box are), and the upstairs...  all separated by the stairs with the new monster in it.

He cried all night Thursday, hiding under the sofa in the living room.

Friday morning, Kathy carried him into the kitchen and deposited him there for the morning so he could get something to eat, and relieve himself.  Later that afternoon, she carried him upstairs to sleep on the bed for the balance of the daylight hours (like he usually does).

By yesterday, he was finally venturing through the hallway between the front and rear downstairs, and finally last night he showed up upstairs in the middle of the night.

Of course, now that the trauma has been successfully broken through, the little fur ball just had to make one last statement about this whole thing...  I came downstairs to the living room this morning, and there, right in the middle of the floor, he had deposited his "protest puke" for both of us to step in, be grossed out by, and otherwise informed that the monster on the stairs does not meet with his approval.
